The Three Ways of Cleaning Your Concrete Driveway
Guide from an experienced paving company.
Your concrete driveway can accumulate a lot of dust and dirt over the years. Cleaning them off might not be as easy as using a leaf blower! Here, we are going to take a look at three of the most effective ways to clean your concrete driveway.
- Soda
Soda can be used to remove grease stains effectively. It might sound unbelievable, but it’s true! The cleaning ‘power’ of soda can be attributed to the following ingredients.
- Carbonated water, a solution also known as carbonic acid
- Phosphoric acid
- Citric acid
These three acids free the grease from concrete. Coca Cola is a popular choice for cleaning concrete, but almost any soda with these 3 ingredients will work just fine. Pour out the soda and let it sit on the concrete for some 15-30 minutes and then use a scrubber to clean it off. Depending on the size of the stain, you may use scrub brushes or even go for towels or a mop and then use cleaner and water.
- Concrete Cleaner or Degreaser
Concrete cleaners and degreasers are usually made from concentrated alkaline soap. This enables it to loosen up the oil for easy and effective cleanup. However, they do not break down the oil so their applicability on concrete that has been stained for a long time is limited. This solution is highly effective on porous concrete.
- Bleach
If a large area of your concrete need a good cleaning, then you can just fill a bucket with warm water and about ¾ a cup of liquid bleach and start the mopping. Let the bleach solution sit for a few minutes and then use a bucket with clean water to mop up the bleach solution.
You should note that bleach should not be mixed with other household cleaners. You should also be wearing gloves when you are scrubbing with bleach to protect your hands.
